Project profile:
Fabric Manufacturing
Tracking System.
There are many involved processes
required in manufacturing fabric. Among these is the finishing process
where the fabric is rolled and cut to length in pieces (called batching),
labeled by lot number and serial number, inspected for defects, and finally
packaged.
Black Box Technologies was
hired to provide networked computerized inspection and batcher stations.
The information is recorded from the inspectors and the batchers, and
stored in a master database. The database organizes the data for simple
report generation and archiving. This process was developed using Labview
software with the SQL toolkit. The network is a Microsoft network set
up as peer to peer using both TCP/IP and NetBEUI protocols. The batcher's
station automatically prints out a piece ticket to be attached to the
finished piece. A bar code is printed on the ticket and is used in the
shipping department. The shipping department scans in each piece received
in and uses this information to fill orders. The shipping computer software
is also networked to the master database for complete tracking of fabric
from each process to the time it is shipped.
